Fixed costs refer to those costs assumed to be independent of the check-dam’s section and dimensions, depending solely on the number of Check-dams (i.e., vegetation clearing, earthworks operations, machinery rental, etc.). Variable costs depend on the check-dam’s dimensions and are usually related to the amount of material used.
The overlapping space between check-dams “c” refers to desired compensation gradient, which depends on the effective height of the dams and the slope of the gully channel, and affects to the space between check dams (Figure 1).
